You might have heard something like: the more you practice a specific dance style, the better you will become at it. While that’s 100% true, there are also some cons about dancing just one bellydance style and in the episode #11 we discuss this topic, but I’m going
To leave you the list of reasons here, because I want you to give you the more resources possible:
- If you just dance ATS/FCBD, your body gets used to always starting with the right side, your body becomes accustomed to always starting with the right side. However, other belly dance styles offer the freedom to start with the left foot/side, adding variety and playfulness to your movements.
- After years of practicing ATS, attempting moves like the left hip pivot bump can feel incredibly challenging because your left hip isn’t accustomed to those movements. When attempting other belly dance styles, you may inadvertently perform ATS steps with different music. This was my experience, having transitioned from cabaret style to ATS.
- If you have practiced ATS for years, and then you try to move your left hip with the pivot bump, for example, you are going to find it extremely hard. This happens because your left hip doesn’t know how to make this move.
- If you try to dance another Bellydance style, you will end up doing ATS steps but with different music. It happened to me, and I did cabaret style before ATS. You might be thinking that I am exaggerating. Try it, and if you can do it, you might be one of the few who can do it without lacking technique or feeling extremely awkward.
- When you dance other belly dance styles besides ATS, you avoid the monotony. It’s natural to feel unmotivated after dancing ATS for years because the structure of this style can feel limited sometimes. I know it because I’ve felt this before and I tried hip hop.
- If you try another dance style, you will learn new moves which will help your flexibility, muscle isolation, coordination, musicality, etc.
- You might find out there is another belly dance style that you like more, but you will never know until you explore more styles beyond what your eyes can see.
