I have received comments like, you’re lucky to be naturally slender, you are lucky to be genetically thin. Let me tell you that after having my second daughter I gained a lot of weight, and I could have said, well it’s the mom body, it’s normal, it’s the age, but I didn’t and went back to my workouts quickly.
I started doing yoga when my second daughter was born, combined with dance, it was hard to keep both activities going on, so for some time I just did dance, walk and run combined.
Then I came back to yoga in 2017 and since then I have been constant. Yoga helps me to keep my body strong, flexible, it helps me to work on my balance and focus.. Shararanga helps a lot for the arms as well.
I also do pilates, I get bored easily, so I combine yoga, pilates and dance during my week.
Rachel Brice commented in one of her classes that she does lift weighting to keep her arms strong due to the posture. I do a little bit of weights as well, but as I mentioned before, yoga has helped me to keep strong arms.
THE BENEFITS OF WORKING OUT AS A DANCER GO BEYOND THAT.
- When your body is in its best shape, you feel good, healthy, strong, energized. When you exercise, your body releases chemicals called endorphins. Endorphins also trigger a positive feeling in the body, similar to that of morphine.
- Let me tell you that no one is happy when they are out of shape, why?
- Because your confidence is affected. Because you know that you could look better, without comparing yourself with anyone else, but, you know, you can not lie to yourself, you are aware of when your body reaches its maximum potential and you feel good and energized.
- We all like to look good on the stage right, so dancers are disciplined, and this includes, among other things, to work out and give the best of yourself on the stage.
If you disagree, you can leave me a comment, but I am sure that working out consistently, is going to bring you more benefits that not doing it.
